Mills call the fine punched sheet micro hole jali, fine hole jali or hopper mesh. Garg Industrial Mesh sells it by hole number. The micro end is everything at 1.5 mm and below.
Micro hole chart
| No. | Hole |
|---|---|
| 3 No. | 0.60 mm |
| 4 No. | 0.80 mm |
| 5 No. | 1 mm |
| 5½ No. | 1.2 mm |
| 6 No. | 1.4 mm |
| 6½ No. | 1.5 mm |
The chart continues coarser: 7½ No. is 2 mm, then 8½, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 No. up to 8 mm. There is no 7 No., 8 No. or 9 No.
How a mill uses the number
The number is the hole already in that machine. A rice hopper, an atta chamber, a dal screen and a spice screen can each sit on a different number. The operator pulls the worn sheet and matches the hole, or reads the number the fitter was given. Thickness and cut size are confirmed on the RFQ.
