Expanded Mesh: Order by SWD, LWD and Strand

Expanded mesh has no welds. The diamond is three numbers: SWD, LWD and strand width. Stock patterns keep their names.

Key takeaways
  • Expanded mesh is slit and stretched from one sheet. There is no weld.
  • SWD is the short way of the diamond, LWD the long way, strand the metal width, all in millimetres.
  • Patterns keep names such as Titan, Pan and Ariel. The numbers are measured, not rounded to a nearest inch.
  • Metals are mild steel, aluminium and stainless.

If a drawing says "expanded jali" and nothing else, the quote cannot be cut. The diamond needs three numbers.

The three numbers

SWD is the short centre-to-centre of the diamond. LWD is the long centre-to-centre. Strand is the width of the metal that forms the edge. Thickness and sheet size sit beside those three, not instead of them.

A few stock patterns, so the units are obvious:

PatternSWDLWDStrand
Titan18 mm9 mm4 mm
Pan25 mm15 mm12 mm
Ariel115 mm55 mm20 mm

The catalogue has more named patterns. Order by the name if you have it, or by the three millimetre figures if the drawing uses those.

Metal

Mild steel is the everyday guard and walkway sheet. Paint or powder-coat it outdoors. Aluminium is the light facade and grille. Stainless is the one for a long outdoor life. Say which, plus quantity.

This is not welded mesh and not a punched perforated sheet. Sector 9, Noida. 9910238277.
